Small club - BIG heartAlthough the world is in a state of crisis right now it is still possible to carry on the Rotary tradition of helping where help is needed. Our club is working with Kiva to help people grow their businesses and support their communities. So far our club has contributed 34 loans to various countries and for various purposes as you can see by these graphs. We invite everyone to visit Kiva and look at all the good that is being done across the globe. Once there you can read more about the type of people requesting loans and about how we are supporting the world by helping these people. #chwkafterhours #volunteering #serviceaboveself #rotary #giveback #helpingourcommunity #chilliwack #chilliwackbc #rotarians #inspiration #helpingothers #takeaction #kiva |
Feed the Kids campaignHad the pleasure of delivering 25 hampers to a local elementary school with a Rotary buddy. This is part of the Feed the Kids campaign. The food bank needs donations of peanut butter and canned goods. Even better a cash donation. Some of these families have been going without. Nice to help out! #chwkafterhours #volunteering #serviceaboveself #rotary #giveback #helpingourcommunity #chilliwack #chilliwackbc #rotarians #inspiration #helpingothers #takeaction |

A 15-year old student from Promontory, Davina is excited to be participating in a short-term exchange this summer. She is hoping to be sent to France, and return from France with her French host-sister. A feel good Act of Kindness!Great fun was had at our Dec. 2 meeting. There was much love being felt and shared as members of the Chilliwack AFTER HOURS Rotary club wrote messages of thanks to members of the Canadian Armed Forces who will be away from their families during the holiday season. You can see from the smiles on our members faces that these cards of kindness had as much affect on our members as we hope they will have on the recipients. #chwkafterhours #volunteering #serviceaboveself #rotary #giveback #helpingourcommunity #chilliwackbc #rak #actsofkindness #givingthanks #armedforces |

Feeling the spirit of the season!
Tis the season to share love and happiness with those in need. The spirit of the season was upon us at our December 2nd club meeting. We invited all to join us in an evening of festivities and community service as we prepared gift bags for Ruth and Naomi's this Christmas. You can see by all the smiles that this evening of giving back brought a lot of good feelings to our hearts. Thank you to all who made donations of items and/or cash donations. #chwkafterhours #volunteering #serviceaboveself #rotary #giveback #helpingourcommunity #chilliwack #chilliwackbc #rotarians #inspiration #helpingothers #takeaction #ruthandnaomi |

Fundraising with the Chilliwack Players Guild!
We partnered with Chilliwack Players Guild for their Wild West Saloon fundraising event where we organized the dessert auction. A big thanks must go out to all our members who helped through sourcing out donations from the community; who donated a dessert, or some even baked something themselves to contribute. A huge thank you to the community members who generously supported this event through their donations. There were 22 desserts, from cakes and cookies to cinnamon buns, in total supplied by our club and others. The decor, meal, music and crowd were exceptional! A highlight of the evening for many was the Rotary Club of Chilliwack After Hours dessert auction, which drew considerable attention and support. The bidding for our desserts was brisk and generous ranging anywhere from $45 to over $235. The cake donated by Katโs Cakes brought in the biggest bid. There were approximately 120 people enjoying the evening of food, fun and festivities. Thank you to our club members who were able to purchase tickets and came out to enjoy the fun. Special thanks needs to be given to Pres. Patti who worked long and hard on this event. She set up, emceed, baked cookies and also participated in the bidding and took home one of the many desserts being auctioned. As well special thanks to Joan who helped organize the desserts and the auctioneer. Let's keep this great partnership alive and plan to attend a performance of Christmas Carol in November. Also remember to go to facebook and like the Chilliwack Players Guild Facebook page so you can be kept up to date on all their upcoming events! There are many more pictures of the cakes and the fun being had. You can find them on the left side of the website under Photographing our community service. #chwkafterhours #volunteering #serviceaboveself #rotary #giveback #helpingourcommunity #chilliwack #chilliwackbc #rotarians #inspiration #helpingothers #takeaction |

Monday MingleIt was a beautiful night on the patio at Major League Two for all who attended from the Chilliwack Rotary AFTER HOURS. Great food, sun, fun and fellowship. Hope to see you next time. |
A Real Team EffortPresident Linda Rook receives the new Chilliwack Rotary AFTER HOURS banner at the January 21st meeting. It was a real team effort to complete this project. It's always great when a plan comes together seamlessly and it only happens with the cooperation of everyone involved. This project was an example of that. |

Helping people with disabilities make their own musicMusic has been an important part of leading an ordinary life for students at the Music School for Children With Disabilities in Honor of Paul Harris in Lublin, Poland. Founded by Rotary members, the school serves 20 students with various disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, and visual impairments. The Rotary Club of Lublin-Centrum-Maria Curie-Sklodowska has provided funding with help from Rotary Foundation Matching Grants and the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society, which houses the school. After their son Mateusz was born with underdeveloped eyes, Mariusz and Joanna Kania looked for ways to help him be active. When he showed an aptitude for music, they looked for a teacher and were thrilled to find the Paul Harris music school. |
Finding Safe HavenFor years, Angalia Bianca had slept in abandoned buildings throughout Chicago. She stole. She did drugs. She spent time in and out of jail for forgery, theft, trespassing, and possession of narcotics. But after she landed in prison for the seventh time, something changed -- Bianca knew she wanted a better life. She just didn’t know how to make it happen. After serving her time, Bianca sought help from a local homeless organization, A Safe Haven, and moved to its shelter in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Bianca followed the program closely -- she attended all the required meetings, passed drug tests, and volunteered at every opportunity. |
Saving lives in GhanaWhat is it like taking a large team to Africa? It has probably been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. In mid February, I began leading Rotary members from all over the East Coast of the United States through Ghana. I’ve tried to give the team a warm Ghanaian welcome like I’ve received on my earlier trips. A large trip is a real blessing because each person sees Ghana and our work in a different way. A highlight for the team was greeting the chief of Sagadugu. The team got excited about buying goats and food for children in the villages where I support eight churches. It was good to see the pastors of most of the eight churches, and I had to explain that we were just passing through on our way to Bolgatanga. |
India celebrates three years without polioThroughout India and around the world, Rotary clubs are celebrating a major milestone: India has gone three years without a new case of polio. The last reported case was a two-year-old girl in West Bengal on 13 January 2011. To mark this historic triumph, Rotary clubs illuminated landmarks and iconic structures throughout the country with four simple but powerful words, "India is polio free." The three-year achievement sets the stage for polio-free certification of the entire Southeast Asia region by the World Health Organization. The Indian government also plans to convene a polio summit in February to commemorate this victory in the global effort to eradicate polio. |
